In July of 2007 the second class of students mastering the Ukrainian language graduated from MSLU. At present eight students of the Translation and Interpreting Faculty are studying Ukrainian at the Ukrainian Language and Cultural Center. Classes are held by lecturers from National Pedagogical Dragomanov University. At the library of the center there is a wide range of fiction, scientific literature and teaching materials which help the lecturers and students to prepare for lessons of the Ukrainian language. During the classes audiovisual materials are used.
At the Ukrainian office students have an opportunity to get acquainted with Ukrainian writers’ works, translations of foreign writers’ works in the Ukrainian language, dictionaries and encyclopedias.
At the Ukrainian Language and Cultural Center students not only learn the Ukrainian language but also study the Ukrainian culture. The study of the Ukrainian language is held in a wide cultural and historical context. In April of 2004 students of the Ukrainian Centre took part in the all-Russian literature compositions contest dedicated to the 109th anniversary of the birth of T.G.Shevchenko, prominent Ukrainian writer.
Every year students learning the Ukrainian language at MSLU and students of linguistic Lyceum take part in the contest of the best recitation of T.G.Shevchenko’s poems held at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Moscow. More than once our students and pupils won first prizes in the contest.
In April of 2006 students took part in the cultural and scientific forum of the CIS.
