Professor Tatyana Vasilievna Medvedeva, Ph.D.
The department comprises 11 Ph.Ds, 18 teachers, among them 4 professors and 4 associate professors.
The professors of the department teach practical English phonetics to students of daytime and evening departments of the faculty ( Theory and Methodology of teaching foreign languages and cultures, Theoretical and applied linguistics, Psychology) and at the Intersectoral In-Service Training Institute. Also the faculty deliver lectures on 'Theoretical English phonetics', 'Comparative phonetics' at the Intersectoral In-Service Training Institute and a theoretical course to postgraduates. The professors of the department supervise course and graduation papers of students in the framework of scientific work of the department.
The stated above approaches, established by world-wide scientists-phonetists G.P. Torsuev and V.A. Vasil'ev , are worked at and developed according to scientific traditions of the department. A number of scholars, taking part in scientific- phonetic research in Russia and abroad, studied within the framework of the scientific school of the department.
The department works out problems of communicative linguistics and interference. ( phonetic aspect).
A prospective direction of research of the department is presented by works in the field of methodology of teaching phonetics of English language in linguistic university and school, and in the sphere of phonetic culture of speech.
Specialists of the department supervise scientific works of a number of postgraduates.
Zh.B. Vereninova heads 'School of a young teacher' within the framework of which scientific and pedagogical art is perfected.
The department hosts student scientific societies 'Culture of stage speech'(head of the society professor I.E. Galochkina), 'Phonetic culture of speech' (head of the society professor N.B. Tsibulya).
It is essential to mention some recent publications of the department these educational materials: 'Communicative phonetics of English language' (T.V. Medvedeva, T.S. Skopintseva, I.U. Stepkina), 'Phonetic base of English language in compared with phonetic base of Russian language'(Zh.B. Vereninova), 'English pronunciation without accent' (E.A. Buraya, I.E. Galochkina).
