Head of the departmentThe Department of Public Relations, formed in 1996 , engages in professional training of students with the command of two foreign languages or more. The department employs reputable specialists in PR and mass communications – Professors: Raskin A.V., Pogrebenkov V.I., Dmitriev O.A., Kasyuk A.Ya., Associate professor Vasileva M.M., and others. The staff coach students in theory and practice of advertising and public relations, shaping harmonious relationship with government agencies and the mass media, tricks of mass communication psychology and advertising, marketing PR, mass communication and techniques and technology of PR.
In order to be a successful practitioner in the field of information and publicity and to develop communicative skills students get an advanced linguistic ground. The educational package takes practical courses of the 1st and 2nd foreign languages (English, French, German, Spain, Italian and Polish), professional communication course and professional translation course.
The department maintains regular contacts with PR agencies and press offices of state-run institutions and international companies, as well as public associations and commercial entities. Due to such cooperation, qualified specialists in public relations get involved in lecturing and scientific research within the department, more over, it allows arranging students’ vocational training in these bodies. Students acquire practical skills in the Administration of the Press and Information Office of the President of the Russian Federation, the Department of the Press and Information Office of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Administration of the Press Office of the Federation Council, press offices of other government agencies, consulting and advertising agencies, and mass media.
Students are provided with the opportunity to advance in the sphere of scientific approaches to the PR activity. The most curious analytical papers are debated during seminars and conferences and published in University’s periodical editions, nominated for youth and special contests. Active participation of our students in the All-Russian Olympiad on Public Relations, the “PR-professions of the III-d millennium” International Festival and in other prestigious events has got a lot of prizes and diplomas and helps to form professional skills of a PR specialist. Among them sociability, creativity, efficiency and team-working are.
The department develops interdisciplinary links and welcomes leading specialists of other departments and faculties. It guarantees fundamental theoretical and practical training for students and it gives PR students an opportunity to work in adjoining fields, i.e. foreign journalism, political science, psychology and sociology. In 2011 – 2012 the department starts to take entrants for the course 031600 Advertising and Public Relations in Politics (a four-year course, full-time tuition).
