Head of the Department The French language department offers courses in the theory and practical aspects of French as a Second/Third language for the students of "Translation and Translation Studies".
Classroom instruction consists of work in all skill areas of the French language learning, including courses in "A Practical Course of French" (from the 1-st to the 4-th semesters), "A Practical Course in Verbal Communication Culture (French)" (from the 5-th to the 10-th semesters).
The series of lectures in theory courses includes "Theory of Phonetics", "Introduction to Special Philology and History of Language", "Theory of Grammar", "Lexicology", "Stylistics" of the French language.
Department staff: 14 tenured members with 7 Candidates in Philology. Departmental research and academic activities embrace a variety of topics and entail the development of programs in the studies of practical aspects of French as well as the relative theoretical courses; textbooks and tutorial instructions; texts.
The Department supervises post-graduate studies in linguistics and the theoretic of translation. The Department is also in charge of research and educational activities of the MSLU Centre for Canadian Studies (Languages, Cultures and Education of Canada). The work of the Centre is supported by the Embassy of Canada in Moscow.
As part of international programs with the Universities of France, Belgium, Canada and other countries, faculty members often participate in fellowships abroad; they are also invited to interpret and to provide protocol support at international level.
Since 1986 the Department has been headed by Bournatseva Zinaida Constantinovna, Candidate in Philology, Professor of MSLU, a 1969 MSLU-graduate.
