The French Translation Department Department offers courses in French-to-Russian/Russian-to-French translation and interpretation, as well as the course of “Introduction to Theory of Translation (French)” to 3rd-, 4th- and 5th- year students studying French as a Second/Third Language.
Department staff: eight tenured members, including one Doctor of Philology, four Candidates in Philology, two Professors, and two Associate Professors.
Departmental research is mainly focused on “Comparative Stylistics of French & Russian Translations”. The department staff supervise the academic activities of postgraduates; work on their theses; participate in the work of scientific conferences; and develop textbooks in translation and interpretation.
The Department regularly holds the “Best Translation” contest among students. Graduate projects monitored by the Department offer approaches to particular issues of translation. The final qua1ifying examination includes the translation of original documents, fiction book extracts, newspaper pieces, essays, or special texts.
The staff members as well as advanced students are invited to work as translators at international assemblies.
