Departmental faculty and staff members conduct classes in the theory and practical aspects of translation as outlined in the curriculum (German-to-Russian/ Russian-to-German translation and interpretation) for 3rd-4th year students majoring in translation studies; foreign students; for refresher courses for the teachers of foreign languages of non-linguistic universities; for German interns.
Advanced students demonstrating special skills in interpretation are offered extra-mural classes in simultaneous interpretation.
The Department is in charge of qualifying examinations and its students' graduate projects involve translations on sociology, politics, natural sciences, engineering, fiction, as well as academic studies of aspects of translation issues.
The Department is represented by highly-qualified specialists in the theory and practical aspects of translation, and its staff-members include Professor M.Ya. Zwilling, Professor O.P. Shmatov, Associate Professor Candidate in Philology L.G. Bezrukova, experienced practicing translators V.B. Danilov, and M.S. Firstov. All of them are often invited to support negotiations at the international level by state authorities and governmental bodies as well as by major Russian corporations, and they willingly share their vast experience with students.
The Department collaborates with different universities in Germany, including the Institute of Slav Studies - J.Gutenberg University of Germersgaim, Mainz, Germany.
