Duration: 4 academic years (240 ECTS)

Entry Criteria: Russian Certificate of Complete Secondary Education (or equivalent), with school-leaving Unified State Examination results in History, Foreign Language and Russian.

Would you like to be aware of modern political trends of various countries and regions, as well as their historical background? Are you eager to master the skills of analyzing domestic and foreign policies of a country? If so, then our university has an attractive option for you.

Program Overview

Our 4-year Bachelor program is designed to give students the knowledge of foreign countries and regions with regard to their political, economic, social, geographic, cultural and other features. It provides intensive exposure to the politics, international relations, modern history, and cultural and social formations of the region of your specialization, with both a country-specific and trans-regional focus. Uniquely, this programme allows you to combine regional studies with two foreign languages, one of them English.

At the end of your studies you will have an oral final examination in Regional Studies. You will also give a viva presentation of your graduation research paper (Bachelor’s Thesis).

On graduation, you can either continue your studies to get a Master’s Degree or go out to work in a large number of fields, particularly in Foreign Policy and International Relations. You will be qualified to work for state institutions, government agencies and other organizations including the Ministry of Regional Development, the Chamber of Commerce, etc.

Year 1

The first year focuses on developing your competence in Fundamental Regional Studies. You are also offered a number of other courses, such as History of China, Britain, USA and other countries, International Relations Theory, Economics, etc. In addition, you will develop your competence in your FL1 (the language of the region of your specialization), laying the foundation for FL2 (from the second semester) and refining your command of Russian.

Year 2

In the second year, you develop the insight, knowledge and skills needed to interpret the political, economic, social and cultural actions and policies in specific regions. The curriculum includes an intensive study of History, Culture and Geography of France, Germany and other countries. You will also be offered a choice of optional courses, including EU Regional Policy, European Law, World Economics, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy, etc. The intensive language training in FL1 and FL2 continues.

Year 3

During the third year, you will enhance your professional skills in the foreign languages, expand your knowledge of the Regional Studies and have Political Geography, International Law, Regional and National Security and International Integration Processes and Institutions.

The second semester is a time of your first six-week work placement period when you can put your knowledge and skills into practice at a number of state organizations, government agencies and companies and corporations.

Year 4

In the fourth year of your Bachelor program, you will study the region of your specialization by taking courses in Foreign Policy, Sociology, Social Psychology, Regional Conflicts, Diplomatic and Consular Law. A course in Russian-European Relations, together with others in Ethnography, Demography and Ethnology are a valuable addition to the curriculum. At the end of the second semester you will be allowed six weeks to complete your Bachelor’s Thesis and gain more working experience.
