First Vietnam Day a Success at MSLU

03.06.2022
Vietnam Day, the first of its kind to be held in MSLU’s history has marked two important dates: leader Ho Chi Minh’s birthday on May 19 and the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Vietnam.

MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva opened the event by saying that the university has had ties with Vietnam since the 1960s, when it began to train Vietnamese specialists. During those years about 300 Vietnamese citizens graduated from the university, many of whom later became ambassadors to various countries and occupied high positions in their countries. MSLU was awarded Vietnam’s Order of Friendship for its great services in the field of training highly qualified personnel. In 2017, MSLU began to teach Vietnamese, which brought the university even closer to this distant Asian country.

Numerous guests gathered to attend the celebration, including representatives of the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia, the head of the Association of Vietnamese citizens in Russia, the leadership of the Russian-Vietnamese Friendship Society, experts in Vietnamese studies, as well as students from various Moscow universities where the Vietnamese language is studied.
The program included a concert organized by Vietnamese and Russian students at Moscow State Linguistic University. The Vietnamese students performed three songs and a beautiful lyrical dance wearing Non La, a national conical leaf hat. Students of the Translation Faculty performed a rendition of the famous Vietnamese legend about the tragic love of Princess Mỵ Châu and her husband Trọng Thủy.
After concert, the guests and artists enjoyed delicious national dishes cooked by MSLU Vietnamese students. The event was covered by all Vietnamese media accredited in Russia.
