10.03.2023
On February 7, India's Foreign Minister Dr. Subramaniam Jaishankar presented Maksim Demchenko, an MSLU Associate Professor of Linguistics and Professional Communication in Media Technology, with the Vishwa Hindi Samman Award for his outstanding contribution to the worldwide promotion of the Hindi language during the 12th World Hindi Conference in Nadi, Fiji.
The accompanying speech recognized the Indologist's work in translating medieval Indian poetry into Russian, especially his bilingual anthology "Pushp-Vatika. The Garden of Poetry." In 2023, Maksim Demchenko became Russia’s only expert on Indian culture and the Hindi language to be given this high prize.
The prize was established by the Government of India in 1973 and is awarded every three years. An individual may receive this award only once in a lifetime.
