3rd International Translation Model UN MSLU

A 3rd International Translation Model UN MSLU was held on May 16-18. This year’s agenda was ‘Effective Responses to Global Crises: Developing Multilateral Dialogue among Civilizations for International Peace and Security’.

The opening ceremony kicked off with opening remarks by Rector Irina Kraeva who stressed the importance of this event format which makes it possible not only to provide professional knowledge in the sphere of international relations but also to develop soft skills and widen the outlook. The Model UN helps participants develop their public speaking, writing and research skills.

Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the UN Information Centre in Moscow, noted that the Model takes place at a very challenging time, so it is especially important that the younger generation should become involved in learning and discussing issues that are high on the world community’s agenda.

Alexei Borisov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian UN Association, Vice-President of the World Federation of UN Associations, underlined that the Model movement in Russia is becoming more and more active enabling its participants to jointly seek solutions to complex and topical problems, negotiate, seek and find compromises, prepare resolutions and understand international political trends by using the Model.

Irina Shokina, head of the program to train translators for international organizations and competitive language examinations, head of International Cooperation and Internationalization Department, spoke about the long history of cooperation between MSLU and the UN noting that during this period a large number of graduates have successfully passed their exam and made the roster.

In her video message, Anna Uspenskaya, coordinator of the Memorandum of Understanding between the UN and MSLU on cooperation in the field of training candidates for the competitive examinations, noted the role of the UN in dealing with various crises, wished good luck to the Model participants and thanked them for their interest in the UN work.
