Italian Ambassador Giorgio Starace Visits MSLU

On May 25, 2023, Italian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Giorgio Starace visited MSLU to meet with our students and lecturers from St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Voronezh. Also present at the meeting were prof. Daniela Rizzi, Director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow, Prof. Lo Porto, Head of education at the Consulate General of Italy and Mr. Giovanni Scopa, Counselor of the Embassy.

The Ambassador gave a lecture on the fundamental values of the European Union and the importance of Italy's contribution to its creation ever since the Ventotene Manifesto as he focused his attention on his country’s peacekeeping and cultural mission.

The students asked Mr. Ambassador a lot of questions which he answered with pleasure and vivid interest, recalling his first steps in the diplomatic career, his love for Russia, the foundations of which were laid down by his parents in his childhood, the role of Russian literature in the formation of his personality; he also gave valuable advice for those who would like to try themselves as career diplomats.

MSLU Rector prof. I. Kraeva thanked Mr. Ambassador for the great honor he did to our university by visiting it and for the valuable gift of books on music, cinema, architecture, cooking, “Italian Russia’ and the building of the Italian Embassy in Moscow, a stone’s throw from our University in Denezhny pereulok in the beautiful Berg mansion to which our colleagues and our best students recently had the honor to be invited.

We hope for further fruitful cooperation in spreading Italian language and culture in Russia and are looking forward to more meetings with Mr. Ambassador at our university.

The Ambassador also expressed his willingness to host MSLU Italian Club members during their visit to the Berg Mansion.
