MSLU Celebrates Portuguese Language Day

MSLU Celebrates Portuguese Language Day
10.06.2025
On June 7, MSLU hosted a concert to mark Portuguese Language Day, this year dedicated to the 50th anniversary of independence for several African nations.

The event welcomed distinguished guests from the Embassy of Angola, including Ambassador Augusto da Silva Cunha and members of the diplomatic mission. Also in attendance was Carlos Eiji Suzuki de Amorim, First Advisor and Head of Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of Brazil.

In their opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting Ekaterina Pokholkova and Head of the Portuguese Language Department Ksenia Nechaeva emphasized the department’s 62-year history as a hub of Lusophone culture. MSLU students not only study the Portuguese language but also immerse themselves in the traditions and history of Portuguese-speaking countries. The university continues to develop academic partnerships with top Brazilian universities and now serves as an official testing center for the Celpe-Bras international Portuguese proficiency exam.

The annual celebration has become a major event for the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, bringing students together through music, poetry, and dance — and offering new opportunities for cultural exchange and professional growth.
