MSLU Expands Opportunities for Interpreter Training
22.12.2025
On December 22, a new Simultaneous Interpreting Centre was officially opened at Moscow State Linguistic University. The opening ceremony was attended by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, and MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva. Located in the University’s historic building at 38 Ostozhenka Street, the Centre was presented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation as a gift to MSLU on the occasion of its 95th anniversary.

During the ceremony, speakers highlighted the Centre’s importance for training highly qualified interpreters. Konstantin Mogilevsky noted MSLU’s contribution to strengthening Russia’s international presence and preparing professionals capable of working in complex multilingual environments.

According to Rector Irina Kraeva, the new Centre will provide an essential professional environment for training a new generation of simultaneous interpreters and help expand the range of languages offered in response to growing demand for specialists in strategically important areas.

The Centre is equipped with four soundproof interpreting booths for simultaneous work by up to eight interpreters, an intelligent videoconferencing system, plasma displays, and modern workstations for students and instructors. Its technical capabilities also make it possible to use the facility as a remote interpreting hub for international online events.

Guests were able to see the equipment in action during the opening ceremony, as MSLU master’s students provided simultaneous interpretation for the speakers. The event also showcased the Centre’s practical training opportunities for future interpreters.

The Simultaneous Interpreting Centre will serve as a key training venue for programmes preparing interpreters for international organisations, including the UN, as well as for master’s programmes at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, professional development courses, and workshops.
