Inclusion Through Cinema: World Autism Awareness Day at MSLU

On April 3, MSLU hosted a screening of Siblings, a film by Italian director Greta Scarano, in partnership with the in partnership with the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow and Perspektiva, a regional public organisation supporting people with disabilities and inclusive initiatives. The event was dedicated to World Autism Awareness Day and aimed to promote inclusive education and greater awareness of autism.
The film, featured at the 2025 Breaking Down Barriers International Disability Film Festival in Russia, tells the story of Irena and her 40-year-old brother Omar, who lives with autism and strives for greater independence.
The screening opened with welcome remarks by Vice-Rector for International Relations Georgiy Grachev and Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov, who emphasised the importance of inclusion and raising awareness about the challenges and opportunities faced by people with autism.
The film was shown in Italian with Russian subtitles and accompanied by simultaneous interpretation provided by students of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting under the supervision of Elena Borisova, Acting Head of the Department of Italian Language.
Following the screening, participants joined an online discussion with the film’s lead actor, Yuri Tuci, who answered questions and shared insights about the filming process.
