Translation and Interpreting Faculty Day

The event opened with welcoming addresses by MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva, Vice-Rector for Project Management and Youth Affairs Innara Guseinova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting Yekaterina Pokholkova, and Alexey Fedorov, a former MSLU graduate, now Deputy Director of the Department of Linguistic Support (DLS) of the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The celebration was attended by MSLU professors, students and graduates of the Faculty – many of them have become successful translators, interpreters and teachers. Yulia Belova, a graduate of the Faculty, now a DLS interpreter, delivered a lecture about interpreting for high-level meetings, the difficulties interpreters face and how to overcome them. After the lecture, students had an opportunity to learn about the MSLU training programme “Interpreting in International Organisations: Preparation for UN qualification exams,” presented by Elena Bavarova and Oleg Lovkov, lecturers from the Department of English as a Second Foreign Language. Oleg Lovkov, a graduate of the programme and the UN interpreting courses in Vienna and New York, successfully passed UN qualification exams in 2018 and has become a UN freelance translator. The guests also watched a promo film about MSLU and the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting made by MSLU students in 28 languages that are taught in the university. The event ended with awarding student volunteers that took part in the Second International Forum of Conference Interpreters “Global Dialogue” that was held in MSLU in January.
