UN and MSLU Sign MOU

On June 24, 2019, MSLU and the United Nations Organization signed an MOU on cooperation in preparing candidates for language competitive examinations or LCEs. The ceremony took place in the historical Assembly Hall of the University in 38 Ostozhenka Street.

The Memorandum was signed by Under‑Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference ManagementAssistant Secretary-General for General Assembly and Conference Management Movses Abelian and MSLU Rector Irina A.Kraeva.

This is a sign of recognition of MSLU's contribution to training highly qualified language professionals for international organizations and of successful implementation of the Agreement on Distance Language Tutorials between the UN Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) and MSLU.

The Memorandum will coordinate the structure and content of the Programme of Preparation for UN language competitive examinations with UN language services. The Programme was revived in 2017 to continue the tradition of the legendary UN translators' and interpreters' training courses opened back in 1961 at the then Maurice Thorez Institute of Foreign Languages (1961 - 1991).

The Memorandum will make it possible for MSLU to invite UN staff to conduct the training in the format of workshops, lectures, and master classes as well to send the students in the Programme for linguistic service internships at UN agencies. It will also include special seminars for MSLU faculty on the nature of translation and interpreting in the UN, terminology and language usage.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the United Nations, the RF Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Translation Company and partner universities, journalists, MSLU faculty, staff, alumni and students.
