Elisabeth-Sergius Readings: Whoever soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

On October 29, MSLU opened the XXII Elisabeth-Sergius Readings by holding an
international conference "Hessian Princesses: Traditions of Upbringing and
Education in Russia and Germany (1840-1918)". The Readings organized by the
Elisabeth-Sergius Educational Society (ESES) were dedicated to the 155th
birthday of the Holy Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna.
The opening was attended by Igor Shchegolev, Plenipotentiary Representative of
the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District; Alla
Manilova, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation; Alexander
Gorbenko, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Regional Security; Vitaliy Suchkov,
Head of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of Moscow;
Dr. Alexander Chubaryan, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences,
Academic Director of the Institute of General History (RAS); Archpriest Dmitry
Roshchin responsible for relations with public organizations at the Synodal
Department for Church relations with society and the media; Anna Gromova,
Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Elisabeth-Sergius Educational Society
Foundation; Prof. Irina Kraeva, MSLU Rector, and others.
The conference began with a prayer service in the University Chapel of the Holy
Equal to the Apostles Mary Magdalene. During the conference, the participants
listened to papers covering the topics of upbringing, instruction and education in
the Russian Empire from 1840 to 1918.
As part of the Readings, an exhibition was opened on the ground floor with stands
featuring materials from the exhibition "Hessian Princesses in Russian History"
organized by the ESES in the Icon Museum in Frankfurt am Main.
