09.06.2021
In May 2021, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres held talks with president Vladimir Putin, foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and spoke at the Valdai Discussion Club. Students and teachers of MSLU Faculty of Interpreting and Translation - students of the Programme for preparing for work in international organizations and competitive language exams contributed to linguistic support of the visit.

On June 1, Vladimir Kuznetsov, director of the UN Information Center in Moscow, sent a letter of gratitude to MSLU, in which he noted that “due to the high level of proficiency in foreign languages, the general culture of translation, volunteers- students and teachers of MSLU excellently coped with the tasks and made a significant contribution to the success of the visit ". The volunteers were teachers Oleg Lovkov, Anna Ivolgina, Sofya Rulkova and students Victoria Tuchina and Maxim Zubov. Their duties included a whole range of tasks: translation of documentation (from documents of UN specialized agencies to the schedule of meetings and lists of guests), transcribing audio files, as well as assisting in publishing news of the Information Center, since all employees had their hands full.
“We worked at the UN Information Center in Moscow for 4 days,” said Maxim Zubov. “We distributed the “shifts” among ourselves, so it was excellent time management. Although once we had to work late, because it was necessary to transcribe the audio and translate the speech of the Secretary-General at MGIMO, in order to send everything to the main office of the UN information service in New York. "

Special thanks were given to Ekaterina Pokholkova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting and Irina Shokina, head of the Department of International Cooperation and Internationalization, head of the Programme for preparing for work in international organizations and competitive language exams.
