11.09.2020
On September 3, students of the Program for the Training of Interpreters for International Organizations who were  recommended for an internship at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as well as Irina Shokina, the Programme Head, visited its Moscow Office and met with Oleg Kobyakov, Director of the FAO Office for Liaison with the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Poddubny (a graduate of the M. Torez Moscow State Pedagogical Institute) and other staff members.

The colleagues talked about their career path and interesting and little-known features of working in the UN system, about the organizational system of FAO, the responsibility and work of interpreters, the interaction of the interpreter with the rest of the staff and the nuances of translation in the context of FAO. They showed the guests the software that most FAO translators work with, explained the main functions of the program and highlighted other technical details.

The provided list of basic electronic resources that can help the interpreter in his work was of great practical value to the listeners.

The meeting became the first  interaction between MSLU and FAO (UN). It is planned to conclude a cooperation agreement, which will allow our students to undergo practical training at the FAO office in Moscow.
