Panel discussion “Japanese-Russian collaboration on training interpreters / translators and language teaching”

The panel discussion “Japanese-Russian collaboration on training interpreters / translators and language teaching” took place on May 20, 2021, and was co-hosted by SPbU, Hokkaido University (HaRP Platform), Association of Japanese and Russian Universities for the Japanese and Russian language teachers and students at universities, private translation/interpreting agencies, language schools, and specialists at public agencies etc. and those, whose activities are related to language teaching and translation / interpreting, and their external partners.

MSLU presented a report “Teaching Two-Way Interpretation (Japanese-Russian Language Pair)”. Among MSLU participants were Ekaterina Pokholkova, Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting; Tatiana Mozel, head of the Department of Oriental Languages of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting; professors of the Japanese language studies of the Department of Oriental Languages, as well as Irina Shokina, Head of International Cooperation and Internationalization Office and Olga Egorova, Head of International Cooperation Project Office.

The panel participants stated that MSLU is a recognized leader in the education and training of translators and interpreters of the Japanese language. A series of translation textbooks created by M.A. Mishina and R.A. Vagapova is in great demand among students and teachers both in Russia and in Japan and needs printing of additional copies. There is also a significant demand for advanced training programs at MSLU for Japanese language interpreters and translators.
